and friends" time. i am gretchen carlson. president obama has a plan to bump back from his dismal debate performance. >> governor romney may dance around the position, but if you want to be president you owe the american people the truth. >> gretchen: who is the one really lying? >> steve: meanwhile thank goodness for al gore . he explains why the president flopped out. >> you go to 5,000 feet and only a few hours to adjust. >> steve: isn't he the guy who invented the intim ator. blame it on the thin air . we'll tell you that story. >> brian: joe biden, take another gaffe. >> you guys sit down if you have a seat. guyings, i didn't realize you didn't have seats, i apologize . my mother would kill me if a woman was standing this long. i apologize . >> brian: another instant biden classic coming to you and what he said later on is note worthy especially to paul ryan who will be debating him shortly . -- shortly. days after a disappointing debate with mitt romney, president obama looked on the bright side of a merely modest jobs report for september. >> this morning, we found out that the unemployment rate has fallen to its lowest level since i took office. >> in his 15th stop in virginia this year and later his 14th trip to battle ground ohio, mr. obama painted a picture of an economy that may not be growing as fast as we like, but is at least going in the right direction. >> today's news should give us some encouragement. it shouldn't be an excuse for the other side to try to talk down the economy, just to try to score a few political points. >> but with the labor survey showing just 114,000 jobs created last month the reduced unemployment rate came from different survey showed a huge jump of people working part-time or from their homes. some called it an anomaly and former ceo jack welch says these chicago guys will do anything, can't debate so change numbers. >> and who is participating, who's not working and who's tried to work, but dropped out. all of these things. it just raises
obama. >> so, what do you think of the post debate spin? let me know on twitter, you can follow me@bret baier. >> there are plenty of ruffled feathers over mitt romney's comments on big bird. are we any closer to finding the terrorists that killed four americans in libya? . the carful? how about...by the bowlful? campbell's soups give you nutrition, energy, and can help you keep a healthy weight. campbell's. it's amazing what soup can do. >> new arrests today on last month's deadly assault in libya. james rosen has tonight's update on the investigation. >> reporter: one day after fbi agents made their first inspection of the benghazi consulate and annex where u.s. ambassador chris stevens and three other americans were murdered, a turkish broadcaster announced the arrest of two tunisians and called them suspect in the case. u.s. officials swiftly contacted them and they had no report on the action, they had an explanation why the fbi took so long to visit the so-called crime scene. >> we were working with the government of libya to obtain permission for the fbi team and the dod s
in the presidential campaign. it was the kind of news that president obama hoped for, just over a month before the election and two days after a sub-par debate outing. >> more americans entered the work force, more people are getting jobs. >> brown: indeed, september's unemployment rate, calculated by a survey of households, fell to 7.8%. that's the lowest since the president took office. a second survey, of businesses, showed that employers added a net of 114,000 jobs, and job gains for july and august were revised upward by 86,000 the president touted the numbers in a campaign stop at george mason university in fairfax, virginia. >> now, every month reminds us that we've still got too many of our friends and neighbors who are looking for work. there are too many middle class families that are still struggling to pay the bills. they were struggling long before the crisis hit. but today's news certainly is not an excuse to try to talk down the economy to score a few political points. it's a reminder that this country has come too far to turn back now. >> brown: thatas a swipe at republican mit
aftftft the debate, the democrats and president obama needed good news. and remember the stimulus promise to keep unemployment below 8%, stimulus worked. okay. but i mean politically and psychologically the difference between 8.1 and 7.8 is significant. but i agree with david. i think to a greet degree, judy, the economy is already baked into people's political equation. a number, an insignificant number probably isn't going to change the political equation. >> what does it do though, david, to the romney sort of central argument at one point, of his campaign which was the president has failed on the economy. >> yeah, i don't really think it changed that. i mean we're gaining 114,000 jobs a year,-- i mean a month. you know, this time in many recoveries we're gaining 200,000300,000, times even 400,000. so if we are at a healthy recovery, then you know, then it would hurt his argument but we're not a haley economy. and it's still basically true, though only by a slimmer margin that 2012 has been worse than 2011. so he with still make that argument. and he'll continue to do so. >> i agree wi
obama is a superior or a tour. -- orator but i think romney is a better debator. we saw something we have not been seeing in a long time and it occurred to me that this reminded me more of the romney i met in 1994 when he was running for senate and came by and met with me and was just incredibly impressive, and a local, pragmatic. this person has been pretending to be an ideologue for the last few years. obama seemed to be like a team sitting in the league. i would not have said "smug," but someone who did not seem to be terribly hungry for it. i do not think there's any question when you look at these instant polls. i don't care for them. the cnn opinion research corp. -- who did the best job? obama 25 and romney 67? who did better than expected? obama 21% and worse than expected 61%. 82% said ronny did better than expected. 10% said they thought he did worse. my guess is that 10% were partisan. obviously a democratic polling firm. romney has no evidence of changing the game. i agree on the first that romney had a good night. i did not know if it changed the game. wal-mart sponsors
